MY STORY

The sand animation is the magic of light and shadow, it's a way of knowing yourself and the mysterious, rapidly changing world with which I come in contact every day as with a new metaphysical experience. Using sand, I can easily transform images, create new characters, decorations and even entire worlds. And every touch is unique, how unique and multifaceted each grain of sand.

I work in lyrical symbolism style which is connected with the subconscious.
In my works you can meet the fragile world of nature, interest in philosophy and psychology and the knowledge of rapidly changing environment. I am constantly experimenting with new techniques and materials.

In 2009 I graduated from St. Petersburg Art College named N. K. Roerich (Department of Painting).
In 2014 I graduated from the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts named famous Russian artist Repin, specialization art historian.
From 2008 to 2011 I taught children of preschool age painting. I paint landscapes in the technique of watercolor, gouache, ink and pencil.

Since 2010, I started doing the sand animation. With sand animation I took part on concerts and plays, created animated films, advertising videos, illustrations and sand graphics.

Exhibitions

  • In 2012 in St. Petersburg I had my exhibitions of the sand graphics: "The people of Petersburg" and "The Patriotic War of 1812 in faces".
  • In 2016 I became the curator of the First International traveling exhibition of the sand graphics "Out of Time", which took place in the foyer of the concert hall of the Mariinsky Theater.

Competitions

  • In 2015, the picture "While their voices sound" took the third place in the nomination "Graphics" in the International competition-festival of the sand animation "Touch" (Ukraine).
  • In 2016 I took the 2nd place in the category "Video" for the work "Sail" in the International competition-festival of the sand animation "Touch" (Ukraine).
  • In 2017 I won the "Touch" contest in the "Video" nomination with the work "Bach on the Sand". It was the perfomance, when I created the sand animations with accompaniment Sonata for violin No.1 Bach performed by Dmitry Makhtin.

Plays

  • I performed with sand animation in the children's musical play "The Hedgehog in the Fog" at the Mariinsky Theater in the framework of the project "Lectures of Olga Piccolo". The author and presenter - Olga Piccolo.
  • In 2015, I received a grant from the Theater Workers' Union to create a musical performance with the sand animation on Oscar Wilde's fairy tale "The Star Boy". This was my first producer experience in creating a theatrical production. The performance was shown at the Variety Theater A. Raikin, in the Theater of Fruits of Enlightenment, in Vyborg Palace of Culture and in the Palace of Culture of St. Petersburg.
  • Since 2015 I have been performing in the play on the fairy tale of A.S. Pushkin "The Tale of a Fisherman and a Fish" to the music of N. Liadov and N. Rimsky-Korsakov in the St. Petersburg Philharmonic for Children and Youth. Director of the play Nikita Shmitko.

Films

  • In 2015 I created a video with the sand animation "Bears of Kamchatka. Start of Life "for the studio of documentaries Lesfilm.
  • In 2016, I make he sand illustrations for the a short film "Maruska" (director Vlasta Arno). It took part in the Cannes Film Festival in 2016.

International projects

  • In 2016 I performed with a sandy fairytale "Cinderella" to music by S. Prokofiev at the Christmas children's charity ball at the Hofburg Palace in Vienna, as well as in the play "Ole Lukkoye. Fantasy in seven dreams"on the New Stage of the Alexandrinsky Theater in St. Petersburg. Music - Gleb Kolyadin and Anton Glushkin.
  • In November 2017, there was my debut in Paris in the concert hall of Radio France with Radio France's Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Adrian Perryushon. We showed a musical fantasy with the sand animation to the music of G. Faure "Dolly" and K. Debussy "Children's Corner".
  • Then we repeated the success of the performance in Strasbourg, where we demonstrated this performance four times in January 2018 with the Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Dylan Corlaet.
  • In 2018 I took part in the project "Pictures at an Exhibition" M.P. Mussorgsky with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Monte Carlo, directed by Maxim Tortelier.
  • In May 2018 I performed with the Liege Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (Belgium) under the direction of Hervé Nica in the play "Sleeping beauty" to the music of P.I. Tchaikovsky.

At the same time she became a laureate of the St. Petersburg Children's Charitable Organization "Big Bear" in the category "Artist" for creating charity performances with the sand animation.

I also participated in various projects and performances in Turkey, Armenia, Germany and Spain, performed at the Mariinsky, Hermitage, Alexandrinsky, Maly Drama theaters of St. Petersburg, the Ice Palace, the Smolny Cathedral, the Theater Museum, the St. Petersburg Union of Artists, the Vyborg Castle, the Yerevan State Philharmonic, the Philharmonic for children and youth of St. Petersburg and many other venues. I am engaged in charity and show performances for children from orphanages and hospices.

In November 2018, in Nice, at the Cestpassclassique music festival, Ekaterina took part in the concert to the music of Igor Stravinsky's Pulcinella jointly with the Cannes Regional Orchestra. Conductor Benjamin Levy. She also created sand scenery for the second concert for violin and orchestra of Sergei Prokofiev. Dmitry Makhtin was soloist at this concert.

Since April 2019, at the St. Petersburg Philharmonic for Children and Youth she took part at the concert to the music of C. Saint-Saens “Animal Carnival”, conductor Mikhail Golikov.

In May 2019, in Sergiev Posad, the premiere of the concert “Oratorio on the Holy Land. Farewell hour in Jerusalem” took place. For that event Ekaterina created sand sceneries. Olga Malikova was the director of the concert.

In September 2019, in Warsaw, the People’s Opera Theater she became a member of the Crazy Days in Warsaw music festival. She showed the premiere of sand animation for a concert to the music of N. Rimsky-Korsakov "Scheherazade" with Orchestra - Warsaw Symphony Orchestra, conductor Alexander Markovich.

In December 2019, she held a series of master classes "The little Mermaid" for children in Paris.

Also in December 2019, together with the piano Duo of David Soudoubray and Anne-Lise Gastaldi, they performed a concert to the music of C. Debussy " Children's corner and G. Faure " Dolly " at the Pourelle theater in Nancy (France). The concert's host is Francois-Xavier Syumzak.

On December 22, 2019, the Monaco Philharmonic hosted the premiere of a concert based on the fairy tale "The little Mermaid" by G. H. Andersen together with the Monaco chamber Symphony orchestra and actress Armel Gouget.

At the end of December 2019, the concert "The Nutcracker Fairy tale mystery" was successfully premiered together with the Symphony orchestra of the Philharmonic For children and youth of St. Petersburg. Conductor - Mikhail Golikov.

In January 2020, in St. Petersburg in the mansion "Palm" showed the author's musical performance with sand animation based on the fairy tale by Oscar Wilde "Star boy". Actor-Sergey Safronov. Vibraphone-Pavel Chizhik.

In January 2020, she performed the premiere of "The Nutcracker" sand animation concert at "The Colosseum" concert hall in collaboration with the Olympic brass orchestra. Conductor - Alexander Golikov. The artistic Director is Alexey Stepanov.

In March 2020, the great Hall of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic hosted a continuation of the concert "Oratorio on the Holy land. Farewell hour in Jerusalem " for which she created sand decorations. The project is directed by Olga Malikova.

In October 2020 in Geneva and Lausanne (Switzerland ) together with the Camerata Vienna orchestra, she showed a concert to the music of M. Mussorgsky "Pictures from the exhibition". Conductor - Gleb Skvortsov.
